The ins and outs of TB

Jonathan Cohen
Abstract
Australian GPs need to be aware of the risk of TB for specific subgroups in the country, and for travellers going out to areas of high risk.
Key Points

Tuberculosis (TB) is one the world’s most common and serious diseases. The WHO estimates that there are 8 million new cases and 2 million deaths per year. While the disease is not common in Australia, and the majority of cases are imported, Australian general practitioners need to be aware of the risk for specific subgroups in the country, and for travellers going out to areas of high risk.
