The article ‘Hashimoto’s thyroiditis: how to spot the diagnosis and how to manage it’ by Dr Kiernan Hughes and Professor Creswell J. Eastman published in the September 2017 print issue of Medicine Today (pages 27 to 32) contained an error. On page 30, the third sentence under the heading ‘What dose is needed?’ should have read ‘The dose of levothyroxine is usually less in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis compared with those who lack a thyroid, because of a degree of residual thyroid function, so it is prudent to start with a low dose of levothyroxine of 50 μg/day.’

We apologise for this error and any confusion it may have caused. The online full text and PDF versions of this article have been corrected and are available at the Medicine Today website.
