The past 25 years have seen a growing realisation that bullying and violence are significant problems for large numbers of children in schools. It has been estimated that one in six Australian young people are bullied weekly and are bothered by it, and that such victimisation is related to depression, anxiety, loneliness, poor self-esteem, suicide and absenteeism.
