Office evaluation of hearing loss in adults

Abstract
A patient presenting with any type of ear disease will require a history and physical examination, plus an evaluation of hearing. Simple hearing tests can be of help.

    This article describes simple hearing tests that can be carried out in the office to assist in the assessment of ear disease and enable the type of hearing loss to be determined. Conductive and sensorineural hearing loss are reviewed in the article entitled ‘The GP’s essential guide to hearing loss’, beginning on page 48 of this issue of Medicine Today.
