Community antimicrobial use

Despite a gradual decline in overall antimicrobial use in the community, there was an 11% increase in use in residents of aged care homes from 2022 to 2023, notes the latest Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care community antimicrobial use report. The report analysed antimicrobials supplied under the PBS and RPBS in 2023. Almost three-quarters of aged care home residents received at least one antimicrobial prescription in 2023.
