Foreword from the Editor-in-Chief, Dermatology Collection
The skin is our largest organ and often provides visible clues to changes occurring elsewhere in the body. It can reflect ageing, hormonal shifts and environmental exposure, while having a profound effect on comfort, confidence and quality of life. It is therefore no surprise that skin conditions remain among the most common reasons for consultation in general practice.
In our June 2026 Dermatology Collection, we present four practical reviews addressing common and important problems encountered in everyday practice. Topics range from the often-overlooked skin and hair changes associated with menopause, to the diagnosis and management of hyperhidrosis, a condition whose impact on social and emotional wellbeing is frequently underestimated. We also provide practical guidance on the prevention, recognition and management of keratinocyte skin cancers and review the use of topical therapies for psoriasis, emphasising the importance of patient education and timely escalation of treatment when required.
As always, our Dermatology Clinic cases challenge readers to apply their diagnostic skills. In this issue, we examine the causes of alopecia and crusted scalp in a young boy and revisit the differential diagnosis of persistent scaly plaques affecting the hands and feet.
Together, the articles and cases in this issue highlight the important role of GPs in recognising, managing and supporting patients with skin disease. I hope you find this collection both informative and useful in your daily practice.
