A patient presents after having unprotected anoreceptive sex with a person who is HIV positive. How can we reduce his risk of HIV infection?

Although it seemed like a good idea at the time, eight hours later in the cold light of day he was filled with apprehension. What is the best means of reducing the risk of HIV infection in this circumstance? Should antiretroviral drugs be offered and what is the best combination?
