Simple couples therapy for common relationship problems

Abstract
Distress among couples is common in the community, and in many instances patients may raise such problems with their GP. Here are some straightforward techniques to help patients with common relationship difficulties.

    Accessing relationship counselling is not always easy for patients: waiting lists for psychiatrists are often long and many do not undertake couples therapy, and while psychologists are more likely to provide this service, they are not covered by Medicare. Although organisations such as Relationships Australia provide a good service, there are times when the GP might consider providing relationship counselling.
