The floppy eyelid syndrome: diagnosis and systemic associations

Abstract
The symptoms of floppy eyelid syndrome include redness and stickiness of the eyes; however, patients should also be questioned about any sleep-related symptoms because floppy eyelid syndrome is often associated with obstructive sleep apnoea.

    The oddly named ‘floppy eyelid syndrome’ is a distinct clinical entity with a characteristic set of symptoms and clinical signs, and it has a strong association with obstructive sleep apnoea. Patients present with the common symptoms of redness, watering and stickiness of one or both eyes, often with some blurring of vision. Closer questioning and careful examination helps to distinguish floppy eyelid syndrome from the many other causes of these symptoms.
