Chronic low back pain guidelines
The WHO has launched its first guidelines on managing chronic primary low back pain (LBP) in primary and community care settings. The guidelines outline key principles of care for adults with chronic primary LBP, recommending it should be holistic, person-centred, equitable, nonstigmatising, nondiscriminatory, integrated and co-ordinated. It lists interventions to help those with LBP, as well as 14 that are not recommended in most contexts, including lumbar braces, some physical therapies such as traction, and opioids.
