Intrauterine contraception. A best practice approach across the reproductive lifespan

Deborah Bateson, Kathleen McNamee
Abstract
Intrauterine contraception can provide an effective ‘fit and forget’ form of contraception for women of all reproductive ages.
Key Points

Intrauterine contraception (IUC) provides a first-line, highly effective and cost-efficient long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) option for women of all reproductive ages. Uptake of IUC is relatively low in women in Australia at about 5% compared with, for example, 16% in Sweden.1
