Asthma-related deaths back to pre-pandemic levels

New Australian Bureau of Statistics data released by the National Asthma Council Australia show that asthma­ related deaths have returned to pre­pandemic levels, with 474 asthma­related deaths in 2023 compared with 473 asthma deaths in 2022. During this time, there was a 12% decrease in deaths in males, but a 7% increase in females. Women aged 75 years and over remained most at risk, with 43% of all asthma deaths from this age group.
