WHO lists endemic pathogens in need of vaccines

A new WHO study published in eBioMedicine, has named 17 pathogens that regularly cause diseases in communi­ties as top priorities for new vaccine development. Pathogens for which vaccine research is needed are group A streptococcus, hepatitis C virus, HIV­-1 and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Pathogens for which vac­cines need to be further developed are cytomegalo­ virus, influenza virus, Leishmania species, non­ typhoidal Salmonella, norovirus, Plasmodium falciparumShigella species and Staphylococcus aureus.
