WHO lists endemic pathogens in need of vaccines
A new WHO study published in eBioMedicine, has named 17 pathogens that regularly cause diseases in communities as top priorities for new vaccine development. Pathogens for which vaccine research is needed are group A streptococcus, hepatitis C virus, HIV-1 and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Pathogens for which vaccines need to be further developed are cytomegalo virus, influenza virus, Leishmania species, non typhoidal Salmonella, norovirus, Plasmodium falciparum, Shigella species and Staphylococcus aureus.
