Elective cosmetic procedures: are patients deterred by the risks?
Abstract
There has been much written about the consequences of failing to inform patients about risks. What about the situation when a patient has been informed but decides to take the risk?
Key Points
In recent times, medical negligence litigation has been increasing steadily and indemnity premiums have increased commensurately. Even when procedures are performed with due care, doctors may be held liable in negligence for not providing sufficient information about the ‘material risks’ of the proposed procedure.
