Hypertension treatment costs in Australia
Hypertension treatment in Australia is costing more than $1.2 billion annually, a new economic analysis shows, with patients covering 40% of the bill in out-of-pocket charges. Led by researchers from The George Institute for Global Health and UNSW Sydney, and published in The Medical Journal of Australia, the analysis found the largest components of expenditure during 2021–22 were pharmacy related costs (51%, $611 million), GP consultation costs (29%, $342 million) and pharmaceutical manufacturer costs (18%, $221 million).
