Making the time count: optimising referrals from general practice for mental health treatment

When making mental health referrals, GPs can encourage patients to be proactive about the referral while awaiting the appointment and introduce coping strategies. GPs should not feel alone in addressing concerns about, and seeking further assistance for, patients presenting with indicators of increased urgency.

Skeletal fragility in type 2 diabetes: assessment and management

Type 2 diabetes is associated with poor bone health and an increased risk of some fractures. Alternative imaging modalities, adjustments to fracture risk calculators and selection of medications that are not associated with an increased risk of fracture can be useful for these patients.

Lung cancer screening aims to facilitate early detection and improve survival. The Australian National Lung Cancer Screening Program will commence in 2025. The proposed program will aim to reduce lung cancer mortality through early detection in high-risk individuals.
